Learning at home with the Dutch curriculum
In short.
Who is learning at home with Schoolschrift for?
A child who is temporarily not going to school
Because of illness, a waiting list or a change of school. The learning path carries on where the class left off, and the parent dashboard shows which core objectives have already been covered — so going back to school is not a gamble.
A child who is new to the Netherlands
The exercises stay in Dutch, because that is the language that has to be learned, but the question and the explanation can be viewed in eight languages alongside Dutch: English, German, French, Spanish, Polish, Ukrainian, Turkish and Arabic.
Extra practice alongside school
Fifteen minutes a day on one subject, or only the parts where things get stuck. Repetition runs per learning goal, so what is going well comes back less often by itself.
Home education
Parents who teach their children themselves can use the learning path as a backbone: it follows the core objectives and can be viewed per subject and per year, even without opening the app.
What it is not
This belongs here right away, because it saves disappointment. Schoolschrift is not a replacement for school and not accredited distance education. It does not give a diploma; anyone who finishes a learning path gets a certificate with a verification code, and that says what has been practised and passed — no more than that. And it does not set the level of your child: the app measures mastery per learning goal and makes a suggestion, you decide.
Compulsory education applies in the Netherlands, and exemption from enrolling at a school is an exception with rules of its own. What is allowed in your situation is something to check with the compulsory education officer of your municipality or with DUO — not with us, because that is their job and not ours.
How do you start at home?
Choose the school type and the year.
That is set correctly in the app straight away; you can change it later. If you are not sure, start a year lower: too easy you notice within one lesson, too hard costs you a week.
Start with the core subjects.
Arithmetic, language, spelling and reading carry the rest. Only once those are running is there reason to add more subjects.
Keep it short and daily.
Fifteen to twenty minutes a day do more than two hours on Saturday. The app suggests a break by itself and ends the day somewhere.
Check the parent dashboard weekly.
It shows which core objectives are covered, where things are sticking and what repetition is lined up.
What does it cost?
Nothing. No account is needed, there are no cookies on the site and progress stays on your child's device. Ads are off by default and are optional; there is never a moment where you have to watch something in order to go on.
